Drug and Alcohol Abuse in High Point

There have been several state and local task forces in place to try to cut down on drug trafficking and overdose deaths. Recently, there have been major drug seizures for heroin and cocaine trafficking in the High Point area.

Given the high rate of heroin trafficking, heroin addiction has exploded in the Piedmont Triad region, including High Point. In 2014, there were 14 heroin-related deaths and 116 overdoses. Throughout the state, there were 149 heroin-related deaths in 2012 and 183 in 2013, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
